It would be 19 years before she realized that she was "just what everyone needed" and adorned her wrist with her title for all to see.
Kari was raised in Newark, DE with minimal exposure to music due to being raised by her mother, whom is deaf. Often she would have to sneak to watch BET and MTV while her Mom was at work. After hearing 'Brokenhearted' by Brandy and Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men, Kari realized her passion for music. Her formal introduction came when she learned to play the violin. Spending the majority of her free time honing her newfound craft, Kari began learning to play the piano and the acoustic guitar in High School. It was here that at the tender age of 14, Kari wrote and performed her own song in her school's soloist concert; Making history very early on as the first student in her school to accomplish such a feat.
Totally reliant on self, Kari attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia for a semester paying totally out of pocket. She was determined to attend school by any means necessary. Her 12th grade English teacher told her "Your education is the only thing that no one can take from you". Those words always stuck with her.
"I want to be so great that the stars want to see me shine", is a quote that Kari lives by describing her musical passion. Her passion shines through in her music. She boasts that, "I could wake up in the morning and be neo-soul and very easily be rock and roll by the afternoon." Her lyrics are derived from life's experiences, with lines turning into songs with the snap of a finger. Those songs are deeply felt by all who hear them and they quickly realize that they are not alone in their struggle; through her music The Remedy has found a way to save them.
Kari’s musical style is a fusion of funk, rhythm & blues, pop and soul music. She has often been described as a mixture of Maroon 5 and Jazmine Sullivan and been compared to artists such as India Arie. When she performs, she not only captures the crowd, she captivates them.
